Hill (2012) suggests that when children begin to write, they can tell more complex stories then what they can write. This is because there are a number of aspects involved in the process of writing. The first being the key principals in the Early Development of Writing:
SIGN: Letters and symbols stand for something
FLEXIBILITY: Some letters are allowable and some are not. The same letter can be written in several ways.
LINEAR: English is written left to right in lines that go across the page
WORD SPACING: Where one word ends and another begin
After comprehending these key principals, then mastering them the children will move through five stages of writing:
Beginning
Early Emergent
Emergent
Early
Transitional
When writing texts, writers move through the aspects of the writing process in two parts:
1.Authorial - Generating and organising ideas and information using:
Planning - Considering a purpose and audience Generating ideas appropriate to the task Considering and appropriate text type Sorting ideas and constructing a plan for creating a text
Composing - Selecting and idea from a range of possibilities to develop into a message Choosing words, sentences and phrases to convey a message Re-reading writing to check clarity Expand ideas and add ideas, then connect them together
Revising - Read and check the work in progress Reword Reorganise add to and delete from the text
2.Secretarial - Dealing with the surface features of writing
Recording - Spelling
Grammar Punctuation
Publishing - Preparing for a presentation
Considering the needs of a specific audience Selecting from a range of media for publishing
